High-Res Switcher

We recently added an Aquilon high-res switcher to our gear arsenal. This product gives us flexibility we’ve never had before. Made by Analog Way, the RS6 is a 4K/8K/16K multi-screen presentation system and videowall processor with 32x 4K inputs and 20x 4K outputs, delivering uncompromising presentation experiences to high-end staging and premium system integration. Nothing else does what the RS6 does with one box.

Our package comes with  a Lightware 16×16 MX2 HDMI 2.0 router and a 40×40 BMD 12g router. We also have extra inputs and output cards to fulfill just about any need. It’s all modular – and all cards can swap to different types. It also can act as a Dante server, acquiring audio from any input and consolidating them to one single source.  Rather than an audio guy going to each individual machine and using a Dante AVIO or a DI with XLR cable, the audio channels can be brought in by the source cable so the audio department can go to one place to pick up all backstage audio.

Combining our new flex servers with the high-res switcher means that everything can be configured beforehand. This combo also supports super low latency – as low as 1 frame to an output. So we now have the capability to fully program media and presets so that when we show up on site we can set up, make any changes needed, and we’re ready to go. This has the potential to save a ton of time and other resources by decreasing the on-site programming time and jump right into rehearsals on small- to large-scale events.
